个人简介：Brett Goodin researches the United States in the world in the eighteenth and nineteenthcenturies. His first book, From Captives to Consuls (JohnsHopkins University Press, 2020) explores how ordinary individuals influencedand reflected American nation-building and evolving concepts of liberty, masculinity,and nationhood between the years 1770 and 1840. He is now working on a new bookproject, Conflict, Commerce and Self-discovery: American sailors andthe Asia-Pacific, 1784-1914.Priorto joining ShanghaiTech, Dr. Goodin taught at New York University in Shanghai,and the Australian National University. He has also held postdoctoralfellowships at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, in addition to theLibrary Company of Philadelphia and Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
