课程简介
Through close analysis of major works of American literature, this course will examine the ways in which the categories of race and ethnicity have shaped the cultural and political history of the United States. We will focus on texts produced by Chinese American, African American, and Native American writers from the middle of the nineteenth century to the present. Over the course of the semester, students will come to a greater understanding of the complex tensions and contradictions that structure American social life, as well as the movements of resistance that have fought to overcome the legacies of exclusion and dispossession.
