The course focuses on concepts and ideas that we encounter every day. In short, cultural anthropology today seeks to offer answers that would help us understand what it means to be human in modern societies.In class, we will learn about some of the most important studies done by anthropologists during the twentieth century and the works that focus on new phenomena in today's world. We will explore why the scholars were so interested in how tribes live on the islands in the Pacific Ocean, what the “Chinese espresso paradox” in Italy is, how traditional Greek cuisine is constructed today, and much more. We will reflect on what these seemingly simple phenomena tell us about the evolution of societies.
