Francis Bacon allows students with intermediate language skills to experience Bacon in English original as well as in clear translations of his Latin writings. Generous selections from New Organon, Advancement of Learning, Essays, together with the entirety of New Atlantis will be discussed, dissected and partially memorized. Preview and in-class activities are constructed around those core readings, providing essentially training so that by the end of the semester, students can give structured, sustained and relatively error-free analysis of Baconian texts.
