This is a course about the making and unmaking of the national fantasy known as the American Dream—the suite of stories, images, and identities that have told the nation and its inhabitants what they are, what they have been, and what they might yet become. It is also a course about dreams themselves—the captivating and enigmatic worlds of altered experience that we pass in and out of each night. We will be guided through the history of these American dreamworlds by some of the greatest writers and thinkers in the English language, from Henry David Thoreau and Emily Dickinson to Ralph Ellison and Toni Morrison.

个人简介：美国耶鲁大学英语语言与文学专业博士，现任上海科技大学人文科学研究院常任轨助理教授。研究兴趣包括18-20世纪美国文学与文化；生态批评与环境人文；移民殖民主义与本土研究；批判  种族研究；媒介理论与声音研究；马克思主义与唯物主义；音乐与表演研究。
