On the afternoon of August 21, the autumn sun was shining brightly. Nearly 30 high school students from all over the country came to ShanghaiTech University. Under the guidance of Mr. Li Zhen and the volunteers, the students successfully registered and checked in, and their expectations for the new study and new life in the coming week were filled with the faces of the students.
On the evening of August 21, all students and parents participated in the pre-camp meeting. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Zhou Hua, director of the Institute Office. At the meeting, Mrs. Zhou explained the relevant matters for attention of the summer school in detail, and introduced the summer school's instructors to the students and parents: Tu Dongdong, Gong Zhen, Zou Yawen, Du Yuqing, Baiyun, Fangyuan.
On the morning of August 22, the opening ceremony of the first high school Summer School of the Humanities Institute was successfully held.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Rulun, Dean of the Institute of Humanities, attended and delivered a speech. Dean Zhang first introduced the basic overview of the school and the college to the students and parents.
ShanghaiTech University is a small-scale, high-level, international, research-oriented and innovative university. The Institute of Humanities is the foundation and starting point of the construction of the liberal arts, and the platform for the teaching and research of the liberal arts. At present, the institute has more than 40 teachers, of which nearly 60% have a doctorate degree from world-class universities, and one-fifth of the teachers have taught in foreign universities for a long time. Adhering to the development concept of the new liberal arts, the institute aims to break the disciplinary barriers and encourage interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary integration.
After the opening ceremony, Dean Zhang gave a lecture entitled The Meaning of Philosophy and Critical Spirit. Dean Zhang pointed out that philosophy is the thought of thought, philosophy should have reflective thinking and critical thinking. We must be able to criticize things, that is, to criticize concepts, to criticize the unstated premises of thought, to criticize common sense, to criticize popularity.
Finally, Dean Zhang hopes that this summer school can open the eyes of students, after a week of learning can be full of harvest, and then start their new study and new life.
