Summary: Chen Yinke is one of the most important Chinese scholars of the 20th century. Throughout his life, he made pioneering contributions in various fields of Oriental studies and history. From his early research on unearthed Western Regions documents to his middle-aged shift towards medieval history, and later his studies on Ming and Qing history in his later years, most of his achievements were groundbreaking. When extending the timeframe to the two centuries of modern academic history development, a reexamination of Chen Yinke's positioning in the global academic landscape reveals that he not only inherited the fine traditions of Chinese and foreign scholarship since the 18th century but also kept pace with the times, constantly innovating and creating a new landscape for modern academia. With the discovery of new materials and the unfolding of new perspectives, reflecting and reassessing his position in the academic history of the 20th century may perhaps bring many inspiring reflections for future academic development.
