Speaker: Dr. YIN Shoufu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia (UBC). His research focuses on Chinese intellectual history, global political thought, and transcultural intellectual exchange. He earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2021. Dr. Yin has also held positions at Seoul National University's Kyujanggak Institute and serves as Associate Editor of the Chinese Historical Review. He is proficient in several languages and has published widely in leading journals such as American Political Science Review and Journal of Asian Studies. His recent book The China That Could Have Been: A History of Rhetoric and Imagination, 11001600 is under external review.

Abstract: From Shengjing to Beijing, the Qing court extensively translated and recompiled imperial histories in Manchu and Mongolian. These texts allow us to reconsider the intellectual transformation of seventeenth-century China and provide a fresh starting point for global intellectual history.
