Abstract:From the perspective of world history, the development of Chinese history and Chinese civilization is highly unique. Influenced by its geographical environment, Chinese civilization has developed with a characteristic of 'non-abruptness.' Meanwhile, Chinese history exhibits a distinct precocity and cyclicality. These factors have shaped the Chinese people's national character, marked by diligence, enterprise, and pragmatism.

Speaker:Zhang Hongjie, Research Professor at the School of History, Renmin University of China. His research focuses on non‑fiction historical writing and the dissemination of public history. He received his Ph.D. in History from Fudan University and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of History at Tsinghua University. He is the author of more than ten books, including Seven Faces of the Ming Dynasty, A Brief History of China, A Brief History of Japan, and Zeng Guofan: Positive and Negative. He was the head scriptwriter for the documentary The Eight Hundred Years of Chu, which received the “Asian Production Award” at the 2014 Golden Panda International Documentary Festival and the 27th China TV Golden Eagle Award.
