Abstract:Drawing on diverse field archaeological and spatial-information data, and integrating technologies such as UAV photography, 3D site reconstruction, and spatial simulation, this lecture explores the micro-geomorphological features and formation processes of prehistoric settlement sites. It reveals how prehistoric communities in regions such as the Jianghan Plain understood and transformed the natural environment, examines the characteristics of human–water relationships, presents successful examples of prehistoric water management, and discusses how these practices contributed to the emergence and development of early civilization.

Speaker:Liu Jianguo is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His research focuses on archaeological surveying and mapping, remote sensing, geographic information systems, multi-view 3D reconstruction of archaeological sites, and prehistoric water-management civilization in China. He has led projects funded by the National Key R&D Program of China, the National Social Science Fund of China, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ “Peak Strategy” for discipline development. He has published more than 80 academic papers and 4 monographs.
